Beemster Classic

The gateway drug into the magical world of Gouda.

Quick Overview:

Robust with sweet and salty nuances; Bold and firm with a rich, smooth feel; Like windmills and canals, this cheese just screams Holland.

Quick Facts

Country of Origin: Holland
Milk Type/Treatment: Pasteurized Cow
Rennet Type: Traditional

The Flavor Experience

This cheese is called "Classic" or a reason, as it is the baseline standard for Dutch cheese. Made from the milk of well-loved cows that feed on the grasses of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, each wheel is hand-turned by a team of experienced affineurs.

The Story

Beemster is an impressive company. Few cooperatives, of any cheese, are able to produce as much consistent, high-quality cheese as they are. They credit their success to the lush pastures that feed their cattle, which are located 20 feet below sea level on a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Delicious milk makes delicious cheese, and Beemster makes a lot of it. While we may not hold it in as high a regard as our single-farm options, there is no denying that this is a tasty cheese at a great price.

Usage Tips

Pair with red wines, Ports, dark Stouts and rustic bread.
