The Flavor Experience
GET IT! Loaded with zesty garlic and plenty of red chiles, Abbruzze Cheese Spread is the classic spicy treat of the Italian Market. With a rich cheddar base for spreading, dipping, or even cooking, this is definitely Philadelphia’s new classic.
Our founders, Danny and Joe DiBruno, hail from Abruzzo, Italy (back of the mid-calf, using the traditional boot model), lending their homeland’s name to many of our favorite products. Sun-dried diavolino (“little devil”) peppers are the ubiquitous seasoning in this region. Though South Philadelphia may be a far cry from the lush pastoral vistas of Abruzzo, Danny and Joe chose to evoke their native seasoning tossing a healthy sprinkle of red chiles into dishes that have become local classics.
We can eat this all day, scooped up onto Di Bruno Bros. Olive Oil Crostini, but there’s plenty else to do with our favorite cheese spread. Locals delight in tossing it with pasta for a spicy mac ‘n’ cheese, and any sandwich, hot or cold, gets an extra dose of heat and cheesy-goodness from a thick layer of Abbruzze Cheese Spread. Try it with roast turkey and cranberry sauce or on a classic Italian hoagie!

This is my favorite snack ever! I wish it was sold locally so I never ran out.
Love the heat

Once I start eating this I can't stop. I love the heat. When spreading on a cracker or toasted bread I don't want anything to get in the way of the taste of this spread.

I love the tingle of spices and peppers, and this cheese gave me plenty of tingle. It was really good on bagels.

Quite spicy (a little too much for me, but my son LOVED it (he ate the entire container in just 2 sittings) and suggested that I get some for my 2 other sons who live in Minnesota, so they will be getting some in their Christmas package.
Cheese with Big, Bold Taste!

I rarely offer feedback on products, but these hand-crafted (artisanal) food products from DiBruno Brothers of Philadelphia are well worth mentioning! These cheese spreads are, by far, the very BEST cheese spreads I've EVER tasted! The flavors are pronounced, fully-engaging the senses; the flavors have a real presence; for example, if, say, "horseradish" is listed as a main ingredient, you'll get a whole LOT of it! Ditto on the bacon.
Heck, how can you go wrong?
From my own eating experience, these folks make a cheese spread like they really MEAN it! You'll find NO wimpy flavors here, my friends.
Now, the cheddar cheese spread with horseradish and smoky bacon is one of my new favorites -- it's tops on a hot, soft pretzel.
But, DiBruno's spicy Abruzzo cheese spread is the focus of my writing this review, and I gotta say, this spread actually has nicely-pronounced "heat" to it -- now, it's not over-the-top with spicy-hotness, so I believe most folks will enjoy this version... I think this peppery Abruzzo spread is terrific when spread on any kind of crusty bread, like bakery-fresh Baguette, or even on a good sourdough -- any light, crusty bread will do well with this spicy-hot, pepper-flecked cheese spread... another new fave of mine!
(These guys are NOT shy about using peppers!)
I've yet to try ALL cheese spreads in the Dibruno Brothers line of cheese spreads, and can hardly wait to taste the red wine-swirled product -- in fact, this one will likely be my NEXT selection to try, for the very first time! DiBruno Brothers ain't afraid to get big and bold with their flavors -- that's just one of several reasons why I love these guys, and love what they do so much... when they make mention of a food ingredient, they deliver the taste of that item in a BIG way!
