Peychaud's Bitters

Lighter, fruiter, less bitter bitters...

Quick Overview:

Notes of citrus and licorice put this spirit in a class all its own.

Quick Facts

Origin: United States
Unit Size: 10 oz.

The Flavor Experience

Any recipe that calls for bitters can use Peychaud’s, but not every recipe that calls for Peychaud’s can use bitters. And that is the beauty of this New Orleans-style spirit. Mild notes of saffron, citrus peel, and caramel give it complex flavor for Manhattans, Sazeracs, and Whiskey Sours, to name a few.

The Story

Son of Haitian immigrants, Antoine Peychaud, is credited with popularizing his family’s recipe for bitters in his New Orleans apothecary. Sure, initially, they were used for their medicinal properties, but after adding a dash to a brandy toddy, he soon discovered they were destined for so much more.

Usage Tips

Achieve Sazerac perfection: Add three dashes Peychaud’s to ½ cognac, ¼ oz Absinthe, and drop in a sugar cube.
