A creamy sheep with a smooth texture, a buttery flavor, and a finish of black olives and toasted hazelnuts.
The Story
Hailing from the Basque region near the border where France meets Spain, this sheep's milk cheese has ancient roots. There's scientific evidence showing that Ossau Iraty was one of the first cheeses crafted thousands of years ago in the are neat the Pyrenees mountains. Today, Maison Agour continues the tradition, with a mild, grassy version we can't stop snacking on. Agour had the honor of winning a coveted 'best in show' at the World Cheese Awards in 2006 as well as countless other accolades. So feel free to tell your friends they're wrong if they don't like it as much as you do.
Usage Tips
The buttery smooth taste of Ossau Iraty takes well to partners as diverse as chocolate figs and spiced black olives. I like it best with a little rose and a nice saucisson sec.
