The Flavor Experience
This smoky Speck is slow-cured in the South Tyrol region of the Italian Alps. Speck is the one of the most treasured foods to come out of Alto Adige - a distinctly flavored, smoked, cured ham that represents well the character of Alto Adige’s cuisine, which merges Northern European and Mediterranean traditions. All natural ham is dried with real European sea salt and seasoned with local herbs before being smoked with local beechwood. Imagine Prosciutto, but delicately smokey.
The Story
Maestri is a retailer of exclusively authentic Italian salumi, sourced from various Italian regions depending on the particular type of meat. They only work with family-run producers and artisans, which is part of why Maestri is renowned for their quality, heritage and artisan tradition. Their meats provide an authentic taste of Italy, right from your own American home.
Usage Tips
In the Alps, speck, bread and wine form a holy trinity - essentially the most basic of meals - so remember that on a busy night. You need only include a local cheese, pickles and a bit of fruit to round things out. We also like Speck crisped lightly in a pan and added to a taleggio grilled cheese.
