Challerhocker
What Brabander and L'Amuse are to gouda, this is to gruyere. In a word, excellent.

Smooth as velvet, like white chocolate fudge. The softer Alpine notes resonate at last.
Country of Origin: Switzerland
Milk Type/Treatment: Thermalized Cow
Rennet Type: Animal
Challerhocker is the Swiss for those who think they don’t like Swiss cheese. Gone is any tinge of astringency, leaving the buttery background for the subtle flavors of our beloved Alpines: vanilla, hazelnut, and a touch of almond. The paste is velvety smooth and just this side of hard—you can really sink your teeth into it.
Cheesemaker Walter Rass comes from a long line of Appenzeller producers. Subsidized by the Swiss government, Appenzeller production is a guaranteed income. Rass took a risk putting more and more energy into his beloved “pet project” Challerhocker (which means “cellar-sitter” and refers to those who watch over the wheels as they age). After years of increasing its production, though, Rass can finally afford to quit the Appenzeller game. Cheers to the diversity of Alpine cheese!
Top this champion Gruyere with caramelized Onion Preserves for one of our favorite bites. Or play up the nuttiness of this cheese with a fruit jam of your choice — it's like hanging out with a slice of cherry pie over a glass of Shiraz. For a sweeter bite, try with our Fig and Acacia Honey Jam.

This cheese may be designed for fondue, but I found it yummy just sliced from the wedge. It is creamy and mild, but also has the rich element you'd expect in a fine fondue.
My family and I discovered Challerhoker about 10 years ago at DiBruno Bros. We have been hooked ever since. It has the perfect balance of texture and flavor. We use it on crackers, as part of an appetizer or just eating it alone. It is a bit pricey but well worth the cost!!
CHALLERHOCKER was wonderful, smooth, nutty with a little kick (sharpness). I will purchase again, great supplier. Thank you
I bought some in the store on the recommendation of the person working the cheese counter and got hooked so I ordered a Kilo. I'm basically a Blue Cheese person, St Agur is my fav and which I also bught at Di Bruno) but this is now my second favorite.
Best cheese on the planet. Welcome at every meal plus late nite snack. Eat it straight up. Throw it in some eggs. Put it on a sandwich. Au gratin some potatoes. Hollllleeeerrrr.
Obsessed with this cheese.
the best
Nothing like Challerhocker cheese, smooth, great with avocado on a sandwich, melts beautifully and the service and price at DiBruno Bros cannot be beat.
